A Day In The Life of a Wedding & Event Planner
A day in the life of a wedding & event planner is a role like no other. We don’t have a set 9-5 schedule, we don’t even follow a set everyday schedule. Instead, our job entails unconventional schedules, late nights, adapting to changing situations on the fly, and a lot of making memories happen! Here’s what a typical day for me looks like.
What is my typical day like
My day typically starts at 8am. I always start my day with 2 essentials: (1) a 15min meditation on what I’m grateful for and (2) going through my to-do list so I know what’s ahead of me for the day. These 2 practices are a must as they allow me to focus and motivate me for the ‘good news’ coming that day. I then head out to get a workout in with my personal trainer by 9am.
After my workout, I go home to eat a healthy meal and get ready for the day. If I have any errands, I do a few of those before heading into my office. I usually make any necessary phone calls at the same time before I get to my office to start working on anything wedding and event related that requires me to be in front of my laptop.
In my office, I proceed to tackle the important items on my to-do list; a list of all wedding and event planning needs and any other business related items: checking messages, responding to emails, following up with vendors, invoicing clients, creating wedding day timelines, working on layouts, making appointments to visit venues as needed, networking with venues and vendors, and preparing for upcoming meetings and client consultations.
Having office time in the morning and/or afternoon works pretty well considering when I do have meetings to attend with clients, evenings are typically when they happen as this is the most convenient time for my clients. Depending on the day, if I need to work some more in the office after my appointments in the evening I do so. Every day is different depending on meetings and wedding weeks.
How did I get started in the Industry
My passion for all things weddings and events started in my teens. When I was 15 years old, I would volunteer at our church teaching catechism and at the same time I would plan and setup events for our fundraisers to raise money for our youth programs that I eventually ended up directing. I started with small fundraisers that raised a few thousand to larger events that raised close to $30,000.
The first wedding I planned was at 18 years old. I was in high school and planned an entire wedding from A-Z and enjoyed every minute of it! In 2005, after 7 years of graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, working, planning weddings and events, conventions, fundraisers, seminars, etc. I decided to build a business from my passion. Without a doubt, it remains one of the best decisions I have made in my life.
I definitely enjoy the events and live entertainment industry all together; engaging with couples, working with vendors and clients, networking, planning and managing events and weddings. I love working with clients that appreciate exquisite taste, trendsetting design, and detail driven organization. I personally oversee the planning process for every wedding or event, ensuring that my client’s dream wedding or event becomes a reality. Exclusive Planning & Management has grown over the years and am very excited to see it keep growing and flourishing in the years to come.
What Inspires me
I am inspired by my clients and successful business owners. I like to listen to my client’s stories and how they met and what brought them to me. I like to learn about successful business owners’ journeys and know that persistence can change failure into extraordinary achievements. I read and listen to self-improvement and business development content knowing that we can’t become what we want by remaining what we are. Nothing grows in your comfort zone, and great things come from pushing through challenges which make you grow. This philosophy can be applied to any business and to life lessons in general, which in turn helps me connect with my clients at a completely different level.
Each bride and groom are unique; they have their unique story and vision for their wedding day. And with a wedding comes a symbol of a new beginning, and thus so much goes into making that day magical and perfect for the couple. I feel successful and inspired when I see the joy and gratitude in my bride and groom from making their vision come to life.
“I love what I do! I don’t come to work to plan a wedding, I come to work to create memories… An experience to remember for a lifetime. I inspire my clients to make a Dream Wedding their Own.” – Sandy Nissou
My favorite business resources
My favorite business resources include other successful luxury wedding and event planners and wedding and event industry outlets. Some example industry resources are planner’s lounge, wedding pro, wedding décor inspiration, luxury wedding pages, brides journal, inside weddings and much more.
Aside from wedding and event planning, how I spend my time
When I’m not working and thinking all things weddings and events, you’ll find me working out, playing basketball, boxing, riding a bike on the beach, reading a self-improvement or business development book, flying a plane, shooting guns at a range, practicing the drums, assist directing in films, and of course hanging out with family and friends.
