Summer Wedding Tips

Summer is a popular time for weddings, with its long days, warm weather, and abundance of flowers making for a beautiful backdrop for your special day. However, with summer also comes some unique challenges that can make planning a wedding a bit trickier. Here are some tips to help you plan the perfect summer wedding.

Choose the Right Venue

When planning a summer wedding, it's important to choose a venue that can accommodate the warm weather. Outdoor venues, such as gardens or beaches, can be stunning in the summer, but make sure you have a backup plan in case of rain or extreme heat. If you do choose an outdoor venue, consider providing shade and fans or misters to keep your guests comfortable.

Consider the Timing

The timing of your wedding can make a big difference in how comfortable your guests are. Try to avoid scheduling your wedding for the hottest part of the day, typically between noon and 4 p.m. Instead, consider having an early morning or late afternoon ceremony, followed by a reception that starts after the sun goes down.

Dress Appropriately

When choosing your wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses, consider the warm weather. Lightweight fabrics like cotton or chiffon will be more comfortable than heavy satin or velvet. For the groom and groomsmen, consider lightweight suits in light colors like beige or grey.

Keep Refreshments Cool

In the summer heat, it's important to keep your guests hydrated. Offer plenty of cold drinks, like water, lemonade, or iced tea, and consider having a refreshing frozen drink, like a slushie or margarita, as your signature cocktail. You may also want to provide fans or misters to keep your guests cool.

Protect Your Guests from the Sun

If your wedding is outdoors, make sure to provide sunscreen and insect repellent for your guests. Consider providing parasols or hats to protect them from the sun, and encourage them to wear lightweight, breathable clothing. If you’re looking to add a little extra protection, rent tents that your guests can stand under to take a break from the sun entirely.

Embrace the Season

Summer is the perfect time to embrace the season and add some fun, summery touches to your wedding. Consider incorporating bright colors, fresh flowers, and seasonal fruits into your décor and menu. You could also offer outdoor games, like cornhole or giant Jenga, for your guests to enjoy.

Be Mindful of Travel

If you have guests coming from out of town, be mindful of the heat and plan accordingly. Provide information on local transportation options, and make sure your guests have access to air conditioning and comfortable accommodations. You may also want to consider hosting a welcome party the day before the wedding to give your guests a chance to acclimate to the heat and get to know each other.

Planning a summer wedding can be a lot of work, but with these tips, you can create a beautiful and comfortable celebration that you and your guests will remember fondly for years to come.
