How to Create a Wedding Day Emergency Kit

You can plan every detail of your wedding day down to the minute but sometimes things go amiss and that’s okay. Like life, you cannot always control what happens, but you can control how you react to it and how you prepare for it. Wedding day emergencies can occur but with the correct preparation, the problem will be solved as quickly as it happened. In this blog, we will go over all the must-have tools to keep in your wedding day emergency kit.

WHAT IS A WEDDING DAY EMERGENCY KIT?

A wedding day emergency kit is a collection of essential toiletries, medical supplies, and other necessary misc. items that can fix any problems that happen on your wedding day.

WEDDING DAY EMERGENCY KIT: BRIDE & BRIDESMAIDS

HYGIENE & TOILETRIES

As much as we brides and bridesmaids would love to have a day without flyaway hairs, chapped lips, and dry skin, it’s simply not the case. We’re human and although that’s beautiful, at times, our human selves need a little help. These are my favorite hygiene/toiletries to have packed on your big day:

• Tweezers

• Toothbrush and toothpaste

• Floss

• Breath mints

• Lip balm

• Tissues

• Hand sanitizer

• Hand wipes

• Razor

• Feminine products

• Baby powder

• Makeup remover

• Q-Tips and cotton balls

• Lotion

• Deodorant

• Body spray

• Mouthwash

• Tampons

• Eye drops

• Oil-absorbing blotting sheets

HAIR, MAKEUP, & BEAUTY

Let’s be real, from the moment we wake up, to the ceremony and onto our reception, weddings last all day. This means that it is highly unrealistic that our hair, makeup, and even gowns remain perfect without some touchups. We all know that just one bobby pin or hair tie can save the day, so imagine an entire goodie bag of emergency beauty essentials like these:

• Hairspray

• Brush

• Comb

• Bobby pins

• Hair ties

• Mascara

• Eyeshadow

• Lipstick

• Lip gloss

• Nail Polish

• Face makeup

• Face powder

• Eyeliner

• Perfume

MEDICAL SUPPLIES

Hopefully, medical emergencies are never severe on your wedding day, but even if we get a paper cut, a headache, or a nervous stomach, we will be so relieved to remember that we have a band-aid, aspirin, and Pepto Bismol. Along with a few other necessities such as:

• Band-aids (as mentioned)

• Allergy medication

• Antacid

• Blister treatment

• Pain reliever medicine (as mentioned)

• First aid kit

• Neosporin

• Antiseptic

MISC. EXTRAS

We’ve gone through all the basics, but we mustn’t forget the miscellaneous items. This grouping is the largest but only because it’s prepared for anything, possibly even the zombie apocalypse. We’re running around in formal wear and in heels, both of which can tear or break, so having a sewing kit or super glue, could save the day. Let’s dive deeper into the list:

• Scissors

• Tape

• Superglue

• Fashion tape

• Mirror

• Earring backs

• Sewing kit

• Stain removal pen

• Bug spray

• Sunscreen

• Nail clippers

• Nail file

• Snacks

• Safety pins

• Flat shoes

• Shoe pads for comfort

• Straws for easy drinking

• Rubber bands

• Batteries

• Lint roller

• Pens

• Lighter

• Pantyhose

• Water

WEDDING DAY EMERGENCY KIT: GROOM & GROOMSMEN

The bride and groom’s emergency kits carry similar medical, misc., and hygienic items, however, there are a few key differences that I find important to mention. Like the bride, the groom can be as prepared as possible, but accidents happen, and these few items can fix those problems in a snap:

• Handkerchief

• Shoe shine wipes

• Stain removers

• Sewing kit

• Lint brush

• Extra cuff links

• Extra black socks

• Breath mints

• Deodorant

• Cologne

• Cash for tipping vendors

• Medication

• Phone charger

WHEN TO PACK A WEDDING DAY EMERGENCY KIT

I recommend packing an emergency kit for yourself, your fiancé, and your bridal party a few weeks before your wedding. This will allow you time to think, list, buy and pack all the items you think you’ll need. It’ll also give you time to research and ask for advice. I always say a few weeks because the week before your wedding, your mind will be focused on many other things. Better to reduce stress and start early.

WHERE TO KEEP THE WEDDING EMERGENCY KIT

Before your wedding, ask a trustworthy friend or family member to hold onto it for you. Perhaps a maid of honor, parent, or sibling. If you’re working with an independent wedding planner, I’m sure they would be happy to hold onto it or store it somewhere where it's easily accessible.

These are the emergency kits that I have found brides, grooms, and bridal party’s needing the most but at the end of the day, no one knows you better than you, so put together kits that you feel you’ll need most. Whether it be all beauty or all medical, if you go into your wedding day feeling like you have all that you need for any emergency, that’s what matters!
